Hush

D300 - 18 mm, 1/30 sec f/4, ISO 800

I am not a pious person. There have been though some places where I have felt sense of intimacy and depth. These sensations aren't necessarily related to religious places, but on some occasions it feels as if there were a certain aura hanging over a particular spot.
This tiny ancient church (founded in the late XII century), about 15 min. away from home, is a place I have visited twice, mostly driven by photographic curiosity.
During my latter visit, a sense of awe and reverence filled me while I was alone in the chapel. I'm grateful for it.

Il duomo do Orvieto.
    a presto

  2. I love the feeling of deep connection to a place, to feel the light and shapes and smells. I like being consumed by it and just sitting and watching the air move. In these times I almost don't want to breathe so I don't disturb what I am sensing.

  3. i can really agree with your sentiments here. i know what you mean. thanks for your comments over at my blog. i would love to play along with the emailing of comments on a weekly photo, but i fear that i'm not very constant and over the summer i will probably have less internet time too...
hope you had a good weekend, i am a curious reader, so now i'm off to see more about your church :)

  5. The thing about this chapel that I notice immediately is the sense of generations of people inhabiting a space, people who are in a sacred space within themselves...
I too took some pictures in a chapel this weekend, odd how connected we are.

@BQ: thank you. Your thought is adding depth to the sensations I felt there.
